It is possible to turn your favorite song into your iPhone ringtone. Ringtones are the best way of telling you who is calling you without taking it out from your pocket by allocating specific ringtones to the different contact. Ringtones are the easiest ways of customizing your iPhone. As we know, iPhones are different from other phone so setting a custom ringtone in iPhone is different from others phone because apple has its own policy and restriction different from other company.
Apple iPhone is one of the leading brands in making mobiles. iPhone comes with its ringtones which is fine but most people prefer to change the ringtone according to their taste. For setting a song into the ringtone in iPhone you have to sync your phone with iTunes by signing up with apple id and password apple does not allow any ringtone maker app to set custom ringtone in iPhone. You can set a custom ringtone only with iTunes.
In this following tutorial, we are going to explain how to set a custom ringtone in iPhone by using iPhone 12.7 or later because in September 2017 Apple has removed the ringtone section from the program but it still can be done with iTunes. Apple makes this little bit difficult than the older version.
- windows or mac
- data cable
Select and Edit a Song
For selecting a song you have to sign up in iTunes with your iPhone id and password then select your song. If iTunes does not has your song then you can import your song into iTunes by pressing ctrl-o.Right-click the song and select get info. Set the start time and end time of the song. Like you select 1:20 as starting time and 1:40 as end time the length of ringtone will be 20 seconds. You can set a ringtone with maximum length 30 sec. By selecting start and end time you can select any part of the song as the ringtone.
Change the file format
Now do a right click on the song and select the option “create AAC version” to create a copy of AAC version of your song. A duplicate file created below the size of the duplicate file will be smaller than original file and name ends with 1.Delete the duplicate file. To use this file as a ringtone we will need to convert it from .m4a to .m4r. Change the extension of the file from .m4a to .m4r by editing last three letters because iPhone supports .m4r ringtone.
if you don’t have the option of creating the AAC version then press ctrl-B which reveals the menu bar of iTunes. Click on the import setting and then select the AAC encoder and click ok.
Delete the duplicate file
After creating AAC version of the song a duplicate file will be created. We have to delete the duplicate file from the iTunes library, not from the mac hard drive. So be careful during the duplicate file check the length and the size of the duplicate file the size of an original file is greater than the duplicate file or it will differentiate with the name.
Copy the ringtone from iTunes to iPhone
Now your song is ready for the ringtone you only need to copy the song from iTunes library to your iPhone. For copy, the ringtone from iTunes to iPhone connect your iPhone with your mac. Click on the device icon you will see a little bell icon open the tones folder select the ringtone and copy it from folder to finder window into the screen. Once the copy has finished eject your phone. Now the ringtone you have created is ready to apply on your phone.
Finding old ringtone in iTunes version 12.7 or later
If you created ringtone before updating iTunes. You probably wonder where it has gone don’t worry itunes does not delete your created ringtone with the update of iTunes. You can run a spotlight search for finding your old ringtone but this brings up too many results you will be confused. so we recommend you go to the music then iTunes then iTunes music go to tones and you can see your file.
How to set custom ringtone in the older version of iTunes
In September 2017 apple updated their iTunes to the version 12.7 with this update apple quietly remove the ringtone from the program. This update made setting a custom ringtone in iPhone different for iTunes version 12.7 or later and older version of iTunes different. So we have to perform a different task to set a custom ringtone in iTunes version 12.7 or later and older version of iTunes.
We can say setting a custom ringtone in older version in iTunes is easier than the newer version of tunes because the older version of iTunes contains the section of tones and the older version does not contain the ringtones section. There is no requirement of pc and any other equipment for setting a custom ringtone in an older version of iTunes.
If you have an older version of iTunes then follow these step for setting a custom ringtone in your iTunes.
Select and edit your song
The process of selecting and editing a song in the older version of iTunes is same as iTunes 12.7 or later versions have. like 12.7 version you have to delete the duplicate file and keep the original file. You only need to delete the duplicate file from iTunes library, not from the hard disk. Now go to the drop-down menu in iTunes here you can see movie, music, tones and many. Go to the tones and select your song click on three dots. This click brings up more option now your song is ready for the ringtone.
Sync the ringtone with your iPhone
Connect your iPhone to iTunes by signing up apple id and password. This will bring up the panel of iTunes on your phone go to the tones and select your song do right click and select apply.
