The Top Roles To Fill In Your PCB Design Team

When you are going about the process of designing a printed circuit board, it is important that you have the right team supporting you. Here, we are going to talk you through some of the people that should be in your team and the different roles that you need to fill.  Make sure to keep reading if you are about to embark on a PCB design project.

Design Engineer

If you are setting up your PCB design team then it is likely that you are the design engineer. You will be in charge of managing the team and making sure that the project is a success. It is necessary if you can deal with problems and boost manufactur ability and serviceability of products. You will need to be able to use all of the resources effectively and show off your knowledge and experience in this field. Preparing engineer drawings and mechanical design must be an indispensable duty of a design engineer. It is significant to provide technical guidance to management and identify appropriate process equipment. Also, you must be well aware of the manufacturing processes and recommend changes if any. Reducing product cost and improving design performance working with other members in the group will contribute to the success of the project. The project meetings are necessary to discuss about project progress and issues. From there, you can find out the proper solutions for those problems. Make sure that you are up to the job if you want to create a successful PCB.

PCB Designer CID+

One of the first team members that you should get on board for this project is a PCB designer. This role is there to help you with the design of the product and they will likely use your schematic to complete the process. The PCB designer CID+ should be able to work on the PCB design while you work on other aspects of the product. They will be in charge of preparing design documentations, requirements specifications and PCB models. If there are any new PCB designs, they can provide technical guidance to ensure everything will undergo well.  They are able to validate the concept feasibility and suggest new design concepts. A PCB designer also comes up with process advancement to ensure PCB functionality, quality and reliability. You can find out more about the role of the PCB Designer CID+ in the following blog: PCB Design Guide for Engineers: Part 1 – The Team.

This next role is not quite as it sounds, it technically is the role of a second PCB designer. The librarian will be responsible for looking after the library which contains all of the components that you are planning on using in your design. If you don’t have this person working on this task, then you might find that the project fails because things have not been considered properly with the library of components in mind.

Mechanical Engineer

Another important role that you need to fill in the PCB design process is of the mechanical engineer. They work closely with the PCB designer and they make sure that everything meets all of the technical requirements. They can authenticate concepts through breadboard builds and analysis. The mechanical engineer is able to carry on tolerance analysis at system and subsystem level.  The mechanical engineer can work with the tools in the PCB design software and find efficient solutions for any problems that you might encounter. They can be involved in the management of the team and projects. They will be the ones who develop and evaluate theoretical designs as well as make sure the product can be made reliably. After the test result, they will recommend modifications. Hey can also consider the involvement of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.

Quality Insurance

The final role that we are going to discuss with you in relation to your PCB design team is the quality assurance department. They play a very crucial role in your group. This department is there to make sure that the final product is how it is supposed to be.  During the project, they plan and direct quality assurance programs and codify quality control policies. They will consider the specifications that you have made throughout the process and they will work with the manufacturer to ensure that the quality is how it should be. They can improve your PCB team’s efficiency and profitability by reducing waste. They also work to prevent mistakes and defects in manufacturing process and avoid problems when delivering solutions to clients. They are able to ensure that your manufacturing processed satisfy with standards. Don’t ignore this role as this can make or break your product.
